The screams. The speed. The buzz of the lights. Mauro never saw the oncoming car. By the time the ambulance reached the ER, he'd sustained severe blood loss, BP spiraling to 80/40. Working with seamless and choreographed precision, the trauma team rolled in the Sonix and completed a FAST scan, isolating the bleeding in his abdomen. By night's end, the surgical team had repaired his liver and brought the hemorrhaging under control. The following season, Mauro was back on the field, with a second kick at the ball.
