Sonix systems favored over "Hand-Carried Units"

Customers favor supreme image quality of Sonix systems over portable products

Burnaby, BC (March 9, 2006) — Recent customer responses show that physicians prefer Sonix systems over the "Hand-Carried Units (HCU's)". Physicians concur that many of the HCU units compromise on image quality for the sake of handheld design. Furthermore, the compact design of Sonix series addresses the issue of not having to juggle bedside space for console and transducer placements.

In today's market place, many of the so-called Hand Carried Units (HCU's) are sold and utilized predominantly with console type carts and often their performance is significantly compromised without them. "Ultrasonix has taken the above factors into consideration with Sonix series system design, thus providing an outstanding blend of image quality capability, functional design - significantly reducing size, and competitive pricing that meets the markets needs" says Mr. John T. Buhler, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Ultrasonix Medical Corporation.

Dr. Ronald Ernst, a surgeon specializing in Breast Surgery at the Columbus General Surgery recognizes the downfall of Hand-Carried Units. "I think it's imperative to have a stand [when using a portable unit]. It defeats the purpose of having such a little "bed side unit" if you don't have any place to put it." When asked about other considerations for choosing Ultrasound system, Dr. Ernst comments "[transducers] are one of the more expensive parts of the equipments and I did not see on [hand carried unit providers] specifically the little hand-held, any mechanism to protect your transducers or transport them other than having to unhook them every time. Sonix is a good office unit and it's such a nice little unit you can wheel it down the hallways with ease."

Dr. Vivek Tayal, Director of Emergency Ultrasound in Carolinas Medical Center agrees that ultimate objective is to capture the best high-resolution image for faster and more accurate diagnosis. "[Sonix] has given us an extremely high resolution ultrasound in a small, footprint package at a very reasonable cost." In the emergency care setting, Sonix system is constantly transported between different bed-side to aid faster diagnosis of patients: "Our units are always going to the bed side. They don't ever stay in one place."

Ultrasonix Medical Corporation will be showcasing its Sonix product series during the Breast Course 2006 between March 13 and 16 in Key Largo, Florida, as well as in the ACEP Spring Congress from April 19 to 20 in Las Vegas, NV.
